The claims the levee failures in New Orleans were the work of a conspiracy are merely BS from the likes of Spike Lee, Jesse Jackson, and Al Sharpton. It is nothing more than a counter-attack to divert attention from the failings of Democrat politicians at the state & local levels in Louisiana.

Your quesiton has also drawn the usual myths about New Orleans & Katrina:

There was widespread fraud that took advantage of FEMA assistance, but virtually all of it was done by people who were not and never were residents of the Katrina-devastated area. The thieves simply impersonated New Orleans residents and were able to steal money because of the turmoil at the time (no way to verify the identity of an applicant). I think FEMA did the right thing and almost 2,000,000 people were helped who optherwise would have had to wait for months to get badly needed assistance.

Anyone who donated money to Katrina relief can be confident their money helped the people in quesiton - UNLESS they gave money to the Democrat Party or to the Red Cross.

I see posts all the time claiming New Orleans received money to "fix the levees" and instead either stole it or used it for something trivial. In reality, the levee system was designed & built by the US Army Corps of Engineers ( a federal agency) and major repairs & renovations were also the responsibility of the USACE.  Also, New Orleans is not now and never was a "Cajun" city.

I see claims all the time that Mississippi "didn't whine" and repaired all the damage by "just getting to work".  They must be talking about some other Mississippi than the one I visit regularly, where everything for 1/2 mile back from the ocean looks like Hiroshima after the atomic bomb was dropped.   It's utter BS - full recovery will take most of a decade for both LA and MS.

The same answer claims the 2007 fires in CA were the same as Katrina (like many claims about the current midwest floods).  Clearly a response from someone who does not bother to do even basic research before posting an "answer".

We - the pople of New Orleans - were lead to believe the city was well protected by the levee system. We were lied to by both Democrat & Republican administrations and NO ONE warned us the levees were insufficiently designed & built and would not hold against a strong storm.

The failure of the levees in New Orleans was a result of my fellow cajun people being stupid and not using the government-issued money to fix the levees (like they were supposed to) and instead trying to make the Greater City or New Orleans prettier. We Louisiana people can be stupid. Take Kathleen Blanco for example.

I"m not sure where you heard someone blaming Neo Cons ore the republican party for that matter for New Orleans, but who ever might be doing it is a complete political hack and has his or her head up their butt.

New Orleans is a good example why Liberals, if not Democrats in general need to be beat down and given no power. For 30 years New Orleans has been run as liberal democrats normally run things. And look at what happened.

One big bad hurricane, massive numbers dead considering the fore-warning in an industrialized nation like America. No one had the guts, ambition or brains to get off their butts and help others, or get out on time or do the right thing. Many acted like mind numb sheep.

Meanwhile, the coast of Mississippi was hit just as bad and destroyed just as much. The difference ? The Mississippi area has more of a conservative frame of mind. They didn't whine and cry for help form their roof tops to get "bailed out" of their situation. They started cleaning up for themselves, they started to rebuild and do what they knew needed to get done. And as a result, they are way far along then New Orleans at making the area more habitable. They didn't sit back and expect FEMA to save them or the Government to take care of them. They did alot for themselves and knew that whining never got the job done.

I've yet to see people hold the local, city and state governments feet to the fire regarding hurricane Katrina. All the whiners jump on the "blame FEMA" band wagon when FEMA, although an emergency response organization, was never meant to be the first line of defense.

I don't see people whining in San Diego when they had the fires, I don't see Iowa making a big stink, I don't see coastal Mississippi whining to FEMA, There's alot I don't see.

And now that they have a Republican in office down there, he's cleaning things up and making progress despite the failed and flawed systems they've had in the past in New Orleans. This is just one example of many why Democrats do not deserve power or control of things that are important.....like Government.
