If the government enforced a "no car week", how would that effect you?

Let's say hypothetically, we all weren't able to use our cars for a week in order to reduce pollution and congestion on the roads, but were able to use public transit systems, bike, or walk. How would this effect you and your daily routine? Would you still be able to go about your week normally?

  1. I'd be thrown in jail, because I'd be operating my vehicle.  I chose my vehicles based on how efficiently I could transport my family.  Since I "save gasoline" every day over someone who bought the largest vehicle they could afford, I'm not about to let the gov't dictate when I can and can't drive.

Besides, the legislation would allow for so many loopholes that most everyone would get some sort of exemption.  It's the American way, create a law to affect everyone, then butcher it until it's meaningless.

  2. I'm not just lucky to live three miles from where I work.   I planned it that way.

I'm nearly 60, and have arthritis in both hips, but I ride an electric assist bicycle to work almost every day anyway.

Government enforcement is not as effective as individual initiative.

What can you do to help civilization?

  3. I would love it :) i only ride motorbikes :)

maybe more cagers might look to motorbikes to save on gas and congestion

  4. I would ride the electric scooter. I only work about 3 miles from home. It goes 15 mph so it might take me a few extra minutes to get there.

  5. Nope, where I live I have to use a car, there is no public transportation

  6. i would not be able to go to mt doctors or do any thing and i would have to walk a long way like 10 miles to town.

  7. With the lack of good public transportation 8 mile to and from work about 4 hours walk each day. With out cars the freeways would be empty make riding my mountain bike easy. then it would only be 1/2 hour each way about the same time it takes me averaging 28 miles an hour with my 400 hp car.

  8. I would smell very bad by the time I got to work.  Also my dog would wet on the carpet because I couldn't get home at lunch to walk him.  Other than that everyhting would be peachy keen.

  9. because my town offers public transportation i would be able manage but i know that my parents, living in a very rural area and both being 60, would not. they have a 20 minute drive just to the commuter parking lot and my dad goes into work at 4am. there is no way he could walk or bike that. my mom gets to work for 7am and how would she manage grocery shopping?

  10. it will never happen, the public transportation system doesn't exist outside of town, they're would be no way for businesses to transport their goods and not only could the public transit system not handle the volume but they wouldn't be allowed to run their buses as they should be classified the same our our private cars and trucks

  11. i would be in a bit of a bind... since i work 30 miles away and there is no nearby transit system.
