  1. There is a fundamental flaw in your question: the government, since it cannot create wealth, gives nothing to anyone: it can merely take money from someone who has earned it, and give it to someone who has not.

  2. Right, ...and universal transportation, food, clothing, diapers, etc. (all things that can be deemed 'necessities') Where will it ever end?... It is a 'Pandora's box' of socialism we should never open.

  3. Not at all. I think you're confusing "universal" with "free".

Universal healthcare ensures everyone who wants insurance can have it. This does not mean trips to the doctor are free. It would be based on your income and would be set at lower, more affordable rates. Even in some of your poorest countries, people can get health coverage. The insurance companies in the United States are monsters for charging so much for coverage. It is a billion dollar industry based off people's suffering and sickness. That's no way to treat your fellow human beings.

I'm guessing by saying "universal housing," you're making a joke to imply that everyone would get free housing.

Owning a house is not a universal "need", more of just a "want". Most towns and cities do have apartments with rent programs that can be negotiated by your income. And there is also public housing. So assistance already exists to help the homeless; it just needs some improvement.

But healthcare, on the other hand, is not available to everyone and many people actually get rejected for it. A whole different ball game :)

  4. The government is supposed to be us. Nobody gets a dollar from the government unless it comes out of somebody else's pocket.

    btw ...

The primary cause of obscenely high health care costs is plainly rooted in the insurance scam, I mean, insurance "industry". Insurance companies aren't in business to protect your health, they're in business to make a profit. If you get treatment, they lose profit. I sense a certain, oh I don't know .... CONFLICT OF INTEREST?

  5. Universal health care is an option.  Not a mandate.  Its also a fee based program as proposed by Obama, not a giveaway.

Given the mortgage crisis, I'm sure a lot of people would want housing but those FEMA trailers are deadly.

  6. The government can't give us anything.

We grant power to the government.  We control the government (in theory).

The federal government is only granted a few specific powers in the Constitution and all other rights are left to the people & the individual states that make up our union.

I understand where you are going with this question though.

The government can't simply wave a magic wand and give us stuff.  For every dollar the government spends it must tax a dollar.  When the government taxes it consumes much of that dollar for overhead before any money is returned via a service or transfer payment.

When the government taxes us we lose our freedom.  When the government dictates what we can & can't do we lose our freedoms.  When the government does these items it is because WE let the government do it.

It is time to we return our government to its' legitimate function of keeping us safe & secure and providing the other limited Constitutional duties it has.

Our Founding Fathers were very wise in how they setup the nation and now we need to be wise on how we protect it and those rights they fought so hard for us to cherish today.

    God Bless America
