If the growing of crops for biofuel causes hunger around the world where is the american farmers concience.

I recently saw a clip on tv where a big hairy American farmer was boasting how much better off he was compared to growing crops for food.

And still Americans wonder why they are not Liked or understood by large numbers of the world population.

Still I suppose we have heard it all befor "let them eat cakes"

A better question would be where is the conscience of the people who created and manufacture biofuel? The farmer only grows the corn.

that's what you get when you let the government come in and control something.  government subsidies and price controls.  they never work

As a farmer I can tell you this.  The farmer grows the corn, harvests it then he sells it. The buyer determins if it will be used for food or bio-fuels. the market determins what the price of the product will be.  when the bio-fuels fail, and they will, the market will change and the farmers will grow what is profitable at that time

The American farmer does not receive very much for what they plant and harvest. The middle man and the super chains gain the profits. So, if a farmer chooses to plant crops for bio fuel and you and I keep burning unnecessary fuel for our pleasure, then more power to him. He is raising his family and paying his bills just like us.

Ok, let's ignore the fact that Farmers have been consistently underpaid for decades, and while we're ignoring that, let's also forget about the fact that a farm is a business and requires money to run. Let's also ignore the fact that E85 fuel isn't widely used and is made of corn, only one of the hundreds of food crops grown in the US, and an increase in consumption and prices of that one crop will only directly effect a small percentage of the population of the world, and that a 'shortage' of corn will probably lead to an increase in price of about 3 cents a can in your local grocery store. yeah, let's just ignore all that, after all it helps you make your point....

Honestly, these things are almost an American-only phenomenon. I don't know many countries that are as money-driven and capitalist as the US... cept perhaps Japan. Most successful societies in the world are those practicing Centrist policies; such as the social democrats of Europe (yes off on a tangent there but meh).
