  1. Most of the time they go 1 short unless there is a backup at the stadium which is very rare.

    In post season there are extra umpires which helps something like this.

    Second Base Umpire

    Third Base Umpire

    and all of them can umpire so dey wud just rotate

  4. Sometimes, not often, they get lucky and there's a spare ump hanging around, maybe a senior umpire doing evaluations or whatever. He can step in.

    But usually, they keep playing with just the three. One at home, one at first, the last manning second and third as best he can. They have to hustle a lot more.
