transgressor of the law? If the law is abolished then how is it we can be transgressor of the law?

Jam 2:8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

Jam 2:9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

Jam 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one [point], he is guilty of all.

Jam 2:11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

  1. If you read Jesus' commands, then you should realize that by NOT following Him you ARE breaking the original laws. For His commands are the logical extensions of those Laws. Extended to apply to all people everywhere and everywhen.

  2. Sorry, I did not see your Bible quote that said that the Law is abolished. Undoubtedly, because there is no such quote.

Jesus specifically said that He did not come to abolish the Law, but to fulfill the Law.  Seriously, get your facts straight.  The Law is eternal and was never designed to save anyone.  It is designed to show us that we cannot live up to God's perfect standard.

We are saved by grace, through faith...  The Law is a strong reminder that we need to be saved by grace.

Sorry to be so severe with the demand you get your facts straight.  You may well have your facts straight.  Blessings.

  3. JESUS   said  he  took    away  nothing.He  came  to  fulfill  the  law.In  this  we  fail.Yet  we  are  given  grace  and  mercy  and  GOD  is  so  very  long  suffering.However    the  law  is  still  a   guide  book  on  co  existing.We  still  benefit  by  it.Yet   we  don't   get  saved  by  or  in  it.That  is  done  for  us  in  CHRIST  JESUS   WHO  FULFILLED  THE  LAW.As  a  CHRISTAIN   you  still  have  to  obey  the  ten  commandments, and  when  you  brake  one  confess  this  and  JESUS   is  faithful  to  forgive  us  in  this.So    nothing  is  abolished.Yet   the  righteousness  of  the  law  was  fulfilled  for  us  in  CHRIST  JESUS.That  is  why  we  need  JESUS.    THANK  YOU  D'S

  4. There are several things here you have confused.

    1.  That law indeed did end, with the death of the party of the first part of that covenant law, Jesus Christ.

    2.  Christians (who were previously under the law) are made dead to the law through the "death" of baptism.

    3. Christians are also described as being dead to sin.

You cannot be held to the conditions of a covenant you were never a party to, and a covenant that ended.  You mistakenly identify this old covenant law as eternal.  Not so.  You smugly claim the Bible nowhere says the law was "abolished" ignoring scriptures such as II Corinthians chapter 3, but then you claim this law is eternal without offering any Scriptural evidence to support your claim.

    4. You then confuse the o.c. law with the law of liberty described by James in James chapter 2.  James uses the o.c. law to explain how the law of liberty works; neglect to show love to even one person, and you are guilty of violating the law of "love" (faith, liberty; law of Christ; law of the Spirit, etc.) even as one who broke just one point of the o.c. covenant law was therefore guilty of all.

  5. The law is not abolished. It has been fulfilled.Read Romans 8.

  6. How indeed!

Maybe there's an ex post facto clause somewhere we missed?

Note that James 2:10 equates jaywalking with genocide.  Not the kind of theology I'm interested in.

EDIT--So the purpose of the law seems to make us evil, worthless sinners by divine decree for no reason or function.  Meanwhile, God shows us how much he loves us by rescuing us from the condition that he himself created.  That's battered spouse syndrome on a cosmic scale.

  7. the only ones under grace are the bornagains!!!!!!!!!

we shouldnt be killing or lying....

  8. just because there is grace does not mean we cannot be transgressors of the law. the law was not abolished but Jesus fulfilled it by never sinning. grace means God has forgiven everyone but it is up to us to accept his forgiveness. when we sin we are able to ask for forgiveness and we will receive it but it has to be in total sincerity and humility. kinda like if someone commits murder and is never caught and never admits to it to the police. this act will forever be haunting him. but if he admits to it his healing can begin. he still will face some consequences for his actions but time can rehabilitate.

    Peace!!

  9. the has not been abolished... not in that sense.

"Jesus Christ is the end of the law FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS to them that believe"

The various rules in the Old Testament Law are not to be directly applied (esp. ritual, and dietary laws) but there are moral laws that did not originate with the Old Testament Law that ought to be followed (though not for righteousness or salvation, simply to honor God).

Those moral laws are also written in the conscience of man (Rom 1) and we are called to follow them because they are consistent with the nature of God...

God is love, Jesus called us to love one another.

Certainly, God does not want us to abandon morals and live immorally, that would be contrary to scripture and the nature of God.  But He doesn't want us to use the Old Testament Law as a means of obtaining salvation.  Jesus fulfilled the righteous requirement of the Old Testament Law so that we could be given His righteousness and not strive to create our own.

Lastly, the usage of the term "law" is sometimes referring to the Old Testament Law and other times referring to moral law and sometimes referring to just a given principle that works reliably (we would say "the law of the land" in this sense).

The idea that the book of James is communicating seems to be "don't think some sins are ok and then judge others, they are all an offense to God and fall short of His righteousness"... it is a warning against "pet" sins.

Jesus was the one who said that loving your neighbor as yourself was the summary of the law (as regards to human relationships), this is an overarching moral principle.

The Old Testament Law is not for the sake of making us righteous but can still reveal when we have sinned against God, it doesn't have the kind of appication for righteousness before God that the Pharisees thought they had - Romans 10:1-5 - (that only comes through Christ) but it does still reveal much about God and His desires for us.

    hope this helps.

  10. The book of Genesis covers the first 2500 years of history and within it there is no command to mankind to remember the seventh day. the first command was given to the nation of Israel as a reminder of what God had done for them. and He told them to always to remember that day.

count how many times God reminds Israel to remember this day in the old testament and compare how many times He reminds the Church in the new testament to remember the Sabbath.

Adam and Eve were in complete rest within God prior to the fall as we will be also in time.

Exo 31:13  Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you.

Exo 31:14  Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.

Exo 31:15  Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.

Exo 31:16  Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.

Exo 31:17  It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.

  12. First of all, the book of James is in the New Testament, not the old. Therefore it is in the New covenant, which has not been abolished. Anything brought forward to the new covenant is considered as part of it.
