If the love of money is the root of all evel as the bible makes us understand, what of the lack of money?

in the bible it say, that the love of money is the root of all evil.

in the world, the lack of money sends a lot men into crime.

so i ask, is the lack or is it the love of money, or is a combination of both factors that make men do evil. then again, where does one draw the line?

  1. It is how humans use the money. The desire to have money is not at all wrong because we have to fulfill our financial obligations. I may agree with you that it is the combination of both that they use money for evil. The greed to have more on the part of the wealthy and the desire to commit evil in the sake of the poor. Money is part of our lives to survive. We need money to meet the basic needs of life. However, it is really the intention that matters. If we have more in life, we can use it to share with others. We could put up some funds for a good foundation. So in this case, the money we have is bing shared for a good purpose and therefore there is no evil committed. We draw our lines on the good purpose we choose. That i think is the best thing to do.

Thanks for asking. Have a great day!

  2. The love of money at the cost of forsaking humanity, your ethics. Giving your all to your increase. Never considering your fellow man and in the Biblical sense, your God.

Being wealthy is not a sin.

Stealing is. But that's not what were talking about here.

  3. The root of evil But it doesn't say money is evil. Money you can use in good deeds. It is the root. but money is not evil. Understand the difference.

  4. It requires intelligence to secure one's share of the desirable things of life. It is wholly erroneous to suppose that faithfulness in doing one's daily work will insure the rewards of wealth. Barring the occasional and accidental acquirement of wealth, the material rewards of the temporal life are found to flow in certain well-organized channels, and only those who have access to these channels may expect to be well rewarded for their temporal efforts. Poverty must ever be the lot of all men who seek for wealth in isolated and individual channels. Wise planning, therefore, becomes the one thing essential to worldly prosperity. Success requires not only devotion to one's work but also that one should function as a part of some one of the channels of material wealth. If you are unwise, you can bestow a devoted life upon your generation without material reward; if you are an accidental beneficiary of the flow of wealth, you may roll in luxury even though you have done nothing worth while for your fellow men.

  5. It is money itself that is the root of some evil. Use it wisely and live wisely and it shouldn't steer you wrong. The lack of money isn't the root of the evil, it's the fact that our system requires us to use money that drives people to crime. The people commiting the crime aren't necessarily evil but the money that drove them to it is.

  6. Jeremya: the love of money is a ROOT to all KINDS of evil. (upper case lettering is to point out the words that are usually omitted in quoting the bible, not to insinuate a yell)

There are more things that lead to evil than just money.

The lack of money does lead to evil but then it is the individuals decision to do so. Not the scarcity of a cash flow.

  7. One needn't have money to desire it/love it.  It is an attitude of contentment with what one DOES have that is the focus of the verse.

Incidentally, "all" evil in 1 Tim 6:10 means "every sort of" evil, and not every occurrence of evil.  The Greek grammar lacks the ambiguity of the traditional English translations.

And you are correct, the Bible also asserts that needs can drive a person to crime (Prov. 30:9).

So, to answer your question, these two things - greed and desperation - are both potential motives for wicked action; and they do not exhaust the list of potential motives for wicked behavior.

  8. Make me wonder why churches ask for a weekly tithe if its so evil.

  9. its not really money thats the problem its how people react to it. people way misuse money on things they really dont need but its in the moment they like it but in the long run it doesnt give them any happiness. poor people seem to get this way better than wealthy people, though wealthy people do give to the poor people but still get way fancier things than they need
