Can you answer in your words please, as a Soldier? It would be nice if families of Troops can answer in their families stead, as well? Thank you, Ma'am's, and Sirs.

  1. As for me and my husband who is currently deployed we are both voting Mccain.  I personally believe you vote for who is gonna effect you the most.  I will never vote for anyone who voted NO on supporting our troops as Obama did.  Also he wants to cut the defense budget, I'm sorry but he to me is a liberal wuss.  I asked my husband just yesterday what people overseas are saying and the mass majority is saying Mccain.  Now just so you know, my husband actually has met Obama.  Not at a speech, but actually got to talk to him in a break room.  He wasn't impressed.  The guy talks fine, but don't have a clue and seems to spin everything he says.  I wasn't there for this meeting, but that is what he told me.  But come this Nov I will be going to the polls, and my husband will be sending in his absentee ballot for Mccain/Palin.

  2. I have 3 young sons and one daughter who all know many military and all of them are voting for McCain. Think about it, Obama wants to downsize our military and disarm us of our nuclear weapons. Any military person knows this would be a horrible mistake with all that's going on in the world today. Those who claim that most military will vote for Obama is being dishonest. Yes, I'm sure that some of them will vote for Obama, but most will vote for McCain. The military has always mostly supported the Republican Party.

  3. My husband and I both plan to vote for McCain. As so many of our friends. We would rather have someone who supports the military and has been in the military in the white house rather than someone who doesn't. Ever since I was a little girl, the Democrats have downsized the military and made them sacrifice more than the average person in the civilian world. We don't want to see that happen anymore.

  4. wiemerca has a good answer

  5. He s one of them. You could not understand if you are not military, or family of military.

  6. Why would you think the military are voting for McCain?

I was a Marine in 1972 and voted for McGovern because he was the one to end the war in Vietnam.

A poll of subscribers to military times, which includes, the Navy Times, The Marine Corps Times, the Army Times, etc. said 72% of their subscribers thought we were on the wrong track in Iraq. What is important about this is the subscribers are not your everyday private. They are, typically, lifers.

The military is a cross-section of America, by and large. You can take out the sons and daughters of much of the elite. They don't have to join the military to get a college education. But, the fact remains that, the military is a reflection of mainstream America. There is no reason to think they will vote any differently than all of us.

The myth is that the Republicans support the military. The Republicans support the military-industrial complex that Ike and Gen. Smedley Butler warned us of.  They support higher taxes in the form of paying for a larger and more complex military which we do not need. They support spending your tax dollars for the profits of the defense industry.

When it comes to supporting the soldier, the Republicans scoff at them. John McCain voted against the 2008 GI bill. He voted against better medical care of our soldiers.

Last night, when John McCain took the podium to speak, there was a   contingency of the Iraq Veterans Against the War in the upper seats. They held up a sign that said you can't win an occupation. They turned the sign over and revealed one which said John McCain doesn't support the troops. I suppose this was a reference to his vote, earlier this year, against the 2008 GI bill.

The people attending the Republican convention chanted USA, USA, ... to put down our veterans who held those signs. When the veterans were removed, forcibly, from the convention, convention goers cheered. Republicans showed their disdain for vets last night. Don't forget it.

  7. That's not the feedback I'm getting from them.  I travel quite a bit and run into the troops frequently.  I introduce myself as a retired First Sergeant, offer my cell phone to call home, and just listen.  Being on the inside, I hear things that the public never will.  Virtually every one of us honor Senator McCain for his sacrifice.  Not nearly as many are planning on voting for him though.

Factoid:  According to Federal campaign contribution records, contributions to the Obama and Democrat campaigns from military personnel and retired military out distance contributions to McCain and the Republicans by $7 to $1.  Make of that what you will, but it jives with what I'm hearing from most that I talk to.

Time for a little history lesson here.  Both Bushes gutted the military.  Clinton took the heat for reducing the military but the laws were passed during the first Bush administration.  Clinton didn't push for any change in his first 2 years and by the time that he saw the need to reverse the trend the Republicans had taken over Congress and refused to back his calls to rebuild our military.  Then Bush 2 sent the troops off to war incompletely prepared and equipped and with no achievable objective in Iraq.  We all heard the stories of families sending bullet proof vests to their soldiers because the military didn't have the funding for them, or of the troops that refused an order to drive an undefended fuel convoy along the most dangerous stretch of road in Iraq.

Don't kid yourselves!  The Republicans have NOT been a friend of the military since early in the Reagan administration.  After the end of the Cold War, they couldn't wait to slash and burn the military as bloated and too costly.  Funding was cut for O & M and benefits programs, force reductions were imposed, and much needed materiel was left on the Pentagon's "wish list" for many years.

And those of you who think that Obama would cut the military are listening to the wrong sources.  The TRUTH is that McCain voted AGAINST funding for the troops NUMEROUS times.  Have a look at the following list!

How about McCain's TERRIBLE record when it comes to support for the troops??  Want proof?  Here's PROOF!  Note that the links are to the Congressional Record, not some hype site with an agenda!

McCain votes AGAINST our combat troops ...

5/2008: McCain voted AGAINST the Webb GI Bill.  (Actually he didn't vote at all though he did publicly speak out against it. Then he stood at Bush's side and took credit for it. SHAMEFUL!)

9/2007: McCain voted AGAINST bill to minimize periods of time between deployment of units sent to Iraq. http://senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_c...

5/2006: McCain voted AGAINST $20 Million to VA for health care facilities. http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/ro...

4/2006: McCain voted AGAINST $430,000,000 to VA for Medical Services. http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/ro...

    3/2006: McCain voted AGAINST increasing Vet-medical services $1.5 billion in FY2007. http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/ro...

3/2004: McCain voted AGAINST increasing Vet-medical care by $1.8 billion. http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/ro...

10/2003: McCain voted to TABLE an amendment for $322,000,000 for safety equipment for USforces. "Table"= vote never hits floor. http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/ro...

10/2003: McCain voted to TABLE a vote for $1 Billion for National Guard and Reserve Equipment in Iraq due to shortage of helmets, tents, bullet-proof inserts, & tactical vests. http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/ro... http://capwiz.com/vva/e4/cinfo/?id=15730...

So, if you're not voting for Obama, at least I hope you're not voting for McShame!

  8. yeah----troops----we love you!----

"Sound Off like You've Got a Pair."

  9. Because real men and women stick together no matter what! Short and sweet baby!

  10. Well i have a few family members and friends that are soldiers and they are doing so because Obama wants to cut military spending, and what they have been doing is working. The surges have proved effective, and they can see cause they are there. They are voting for him because they know he is the right choice. Obama has no idea what he is doing and i think the boys in service know that, or at least the ones i know do.

  11. He is one of us. He understands us. He wants the best for us and to eliminate waste. If your going to send troops in harms way you should have been there, even if it was the Guard or Reserves during peace time.

I had a couple of troops that after their 180 days they did everything they could to get booted with a general discharge claiming they were g*y or religiously a compelled to not fight in a war, even though it was going on when they signed up. Just to get the GI benefits from the VA. This is the waste I see.

  12. My husband is an active duty soldier.  This is what he has to say:

McCain won't downsize the military, therefore my volunteering will still allow me to retire from the military.  I will get to continue to serve my country and I shouldn't have to worry about job security especially when I volunterr to defend my country and have had to leave my family for long periods of time.

This is what I say as a military wife:

I do not want my husband or his fellow soldiers to become meals on wheels or to ever be put in a position to be treated like they were after vietnam or desert storm.  I know McCain values my husband's military service and will honor that service.

I don't think that Obama's kind of change is good for America nor is it good for our military.  People say that our military doesn't want to be overseas fighting anymore.  That is not true for many of the soldiers I know.  They know what they are fighting for and will continue the fight over there so that it won't come here.

The only thing I am dissapointed about with McCain, is his Immigration policy and how he plans to deal with illegal immigration.  I believe it to be a dis-service to our soldiers and all Americans.  I don't understand how one would allow terroritst and illegals to pour over our border while our soldier work so hard to defend us.  It also doesn't honor all the hard work and difficulty that those who immigrated here legally had to endure.

  13. I am ex military and I am not voting for McCain, and I also work in a hospital that serves a good number of military, and they seem pretty disgruntled with the situation , it's just they can not speak their minds in the media , so don't be surprised if a lot service members vote against McCain, esp. the front liners like  the grunts , the ones that see the action and aren't station in the rear.   Also 1st Sargent , with all do respect many e-1-e-5s might not feel comfortable telling a retired 1st Sargent they are disgruntled , I know I would have been when I saw a 1st Sargent I was squared away quickly and was showing some  motivation out of respect.  I know I hear the true stories at the hospital.

  14. Our soldiers are partial to McCain because of his military service, and because instinctively they know he is a real leader. In their gut, they know Obama is not the kind of commander in chief that would lead them to victory.

  15. He was and will always be a member in the largest "gang" ever..the military!

  16. The majority of military members are or vote Republican because the party stereotypically supports the military more than the Democrats.  For me, I want someone with military experience as President due to the growing instability in the international system.  I trust McCain/Palin to deal with Russian and Iran more than Obama/Biden.

  17. Most military personnel will vote for McCain because he will keep a strong military and because he will give the military steady rises each year. Republican have been the party to keep the military ready for all wars where the Democrats need to do there Social Programs always cut back military spending and close military bases. Then when we need our military to fight we don't have the necessary training and equipment. Look what that DRAFT Dodger Clinton did to the US military in his 8 year's in office.
