  1. its set at 45 so to allow for any discrepency in your speedo

  2. If you have the command 40, you will stick to it-but sometimes going over now and again. If it clocks everyone doing 41mph, it would take too much time and money as if it did go to court, it would be thrown out. In some places where the speed limit is 70, they set it to 100 as so many idiots fly past, it isn't possible to nick all of them.

A duck set a gatso off once! Ironically, they were invented by a rally driver who wanted to work out how fast he could go round a corner!

  3. if the speed limit is 40, gatso's are set to a maximum limit of 43, due to the speedo readout on a car being analogue, it is only accurate to how well you can see it, also they are not entirely accurate. Tests have been done showing 3-4 mph inaccuracies.

Therefore gatso's accommodate this error by allowing a slight increase in speed

  4. The limit before fines or points kick in is 10% +2mph for all speed zones.

So for a 40mph zone that would be 46mph, for a 60mph zone it would be 68mph etc

  5. What are you actually asking.

  6. Your speedometer must be accurate to +/- 10%.

So if your speedo is undereading, when you are doing an indicated 40mph, your car is actually travelling at 44mph.

The GATSO cameras therefore have to  be set at 45mph, so that it won't clock anyone with an undereading speedo.

As you don't know whether your speedo is undereading or not, then the only safe speed to do is an indicated 40mph.

If your speedo is undereading by more than 10%, causing you to get clocked by the GATSO - then you are still at fault because you have an illegal speedometer.

  7. it's usually 10% allowing for speedo inacuracies safest thing is not  go over  the speed limit simple as
