  1. Good question.  I think it might get worse, because people have a hard time getting ONE other person who is going to the same place at the same time.  I wonder if we could start toll lanes, which would cost 25 cents per car with three people 30 cents with 2 people and 50 cents for 1 person?

    OR

We could have some sort of tax incentive for people who take public transit.  Fro example, make bus passes a tax deduction or something.

  2. it might would help ,but getting more than two people in a car would be a hard thing to do,most people still prefer to drive by them self, who knows though it would have to make less cars be on the road,so it possibly could help, making it happen though is almost impossible, good luck.

  3. Nope, traffic would get more congested because I agree with the others, you can't get more than 2 people going to the same place or near each other at the same time.  People have to reach a breaking point somewhere before they give up their right to drive one person per vehicle.

To help solve congestion, states like CA should base registration fees on odometer readings.  The more you drive, the higher the registration fees.  If the odometer gets changed, mechanics are required to notify the license bureau, so adjustments can be made.  If one person wants to use the carpool lane, they should have a special indicator(license plate, registration sticker, etc) that indicates the driver has paid extra(preferably through the nose) for the priviledge.

  4. Statistically the average number of people per car is 1.2.

Even getting two people into one car is an 80% improvement.
