  1. Sad, and unfortunately, unavoidable, as things are now.  I read a National Geographic magazine article a few years ago that showed photographs of tourists and residents wading ankle-deep in seawater, during one of their tidal floods.  Venice is a beautiful and historic city, and it would be tragic if it could not be saved by some form of sea-d**e system.  They should consult the Netherlanders, who have done an awesome job of keeping the sea out of their country.

  2. Seems so, the system of dykes are failing all the time I did see that some company has a contract to build and heighten the defences but even with that most of the historic center is not expected to survive for to many years. most of the structures are built on man made islands that are been washed away from under the buildings as we write. I know a woman who works there and the place she works has been flooded every few weeks now for years. The wine cellar is not used anymore as it is just water and she says the hotel are planning to fill it with something like a fibre to just strenthen the walls of the foundation. they thought of cement but someone pointed out if they did the hotel will just have more weight and sink faster. So it is a hard one to really figure and answer too.  Some minister suggested that they take apart the city and move it. but if they do that they will never really be the same. It has been there for a long time some of the buildings are built on man made islands that were built close on two thousand years ago.

Have you ever been to Venise I know the spell check says wrong spelling but that is the way the people spell it I know that?
