If the people in charge of schools know that candy is not healthy for students...?

Then why do they still allow candy machines at the school?

because they are not the parents and it is not their jobs to dictate diet. students should be responsible for their own eating habits. and a candy bar OCCASIONALLY is acceptable.

The money from those machines pay for activities and the school needs the funds.  Taking the machines out of the schools will not stop kids from eating candy.  They will get the candy before school and bring it with them.

because they know that kids are attracted to candy and candy bars which kids have to pay for and that money goes to the school! and they tell you that candy and candy bars are unhealthy                                                          because they know that usually kids don't listen to teachers and they do the exact opposite of what the teachers tell them so there for kids will buy more candy and more candy bars because the teachers told them not to.and then they give the machine more money to get that candy and candy bars which means more money for the school!

Because the big companies (soda companies as well), pay big money to have the vending machines there.  With the sad state of affairs in our educational system, and lack of funding, it has become a necessary source of income for the schools.

In the UK I think they are banned. candy machines are good income for the school. For example if there are 1000 students in a school and everybody bought at least a 50p sweet, that's 500 pounds a day, about 5000 a year lets say.

Money. Companies pay the school big money to sell their products to us as we are their prime market. If they can get us hooked they have customers for life. I don't agree with it either , it causes a lot of problems.

Not here, candy and pop machines were removed from our schools a few years ago.

MONEY!!!!! Also, a lot of kids won't eat healthy things at school. I admit, I really didn't myself. Would you eat a salad from a snack machine? Junk food is fast, cheap and kids love it. It's better than eating nothing. I would rather eat cookies at school than starve. Being hungry does not serve your brain well. It's mostly money though. A lot of schools could care less if the students gain weight from eating too much junk.
