  1. because there are two different lines... a power line and a telephone line

  2. nope...phone lines run on millivolts and it is self contained in the line

  3. only if you have a cordless phone will it not work.

no they do not power...they only need signal to be connected to the phone poll.

  4. They do go out if you use cordless phones.

Landlines are backed up with batteries in the telephone exchanges though.

  5. The power that is required for you phone line -48 vdc is supplied over two wires from the telephone company. These wires are separate from the power for your other appliances . Such as your TV or refrigerator. If you have a cordless phone it will not work because it uses an ac transformer . When you lose power you lose power to your transformer. If you have voice over IP .(voice over internet protocall) such as over your cable the same will happen because your dial tone comes over your modem. If the modem loses power you will lose dial tone. You should always have a phone that is not cordless in case you do loose power. hope this helps.

  6. Phone systems are actually run by huge banks of batterys, and the power is used to keep them charged. backup power is supplied by generators when there is a longer power outage.

  7. yes they do because the phone lines have their own power...

  8. Old style phones drew their power from the phone line connection

That's why its handy to have one on standby

  9. If you use cordless then it's dead but a regualer phone works because it doesn't use the powerlines it uses phone lines which are seperate on the telephone poles.

  10. They don't when our power goes out.

  11. The phone has a battery back up system that kicks in to save any numbers you may have programmed into it and so you don't lose messages that were saved.

So your phone will continue to function during an electrical outage.

  12. Phones use very little power, and it is transmitted within the phone line itself.
