If the prison population is 80000 and they are releasing 29000 early does that mean that the prison pop.?

The new system of allowing automatic parole for non violent offenders is staggered by the amount of time served.

i,e an 8 year term is out in 4, a 12 year term in 6 so although the stats look scary with many offenders out at once, the true picture is not as many hit the street as we are led to believe.

Someone sentenced to 10 years last month will be allowed out early... that's in 4 years and11 months.

It will be reported as an early release though.

build more prisons, use prison ships, put 5 to a cell, take out all their goodies to make room, don't let any of them out early make them suffer as much as their victims, and chuck all those bleeding heart liberal do gooder's in with them.

Just means they have room for people who refuse to pay their Council Tax or TV Licenses or people who stand up to the Government such as demonstrators and hecklers, you know! the people that are a real danger to society.

It means that the prison population is unsustainable in Britain and that they were unprepared for the amount of criminals they were letting in the country when they opened the borders to every nation on Earth 8 years ago. It also means that the government is losing control of the situation and that the "tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime" c**p was just words and nothing more, which is what I have become accustomed to for the last twenty years of either government. The fact that they are releasing many prisoners early only encourages them to go out and commit more crime. When oil prices reach $200 a barrel and food prices go through the roof you can expect crime to go up 1000%. The government doesn't have a clue about how to deal with this situation and neither would a Conservative one.
