If the reason we went in to Iraq was oil, Why not just invade Venezuela and take their oil?

Venezuela is the fourth largest supplier to US. Chavez hates us. Venezuela is in our backyard. It would of been a lot easier and less costly. Or was Iraq not about oil?

Sure it would be cool if Saddam Hussein was still the leader of Iraq? Right? The invasion of Kuwait showed that Saddam Hussein wanted to be the leader of OPEC and Hussein wanted to control the Middle east oil reserves. And lets not forget how Israel bombed the nuclear reactor that Saddam Hussein got from France just check out Operation Opera and IDF. Lets not forget how Saddam Hussein paid 25 000 dollars to families of suicide bombers. Then there was Saddam Husseins torture chambers and rape rooms in Iraq. Uday Hussein and Qusay Hussein were both evil people.

Americans are stupid but not that stupid. It would not be possible to create a casus belli for that. Americans were duped into thinking Saddam had WMDs and a startlingly high number of people thought he had something to do with 9/11, nobody could be convinced of either of those for Venezuela (who, by the way, has a democratically elected leader, not a brutal dictator.)

The Bush administration tried to overthrow Chavez but it didn't work.  The oil companies really don't like him.  Iraq has  more oil than Venezuela and it is of better quality, i.e., light sweet crude versus heavy crude.

Well I believe part of the reason they went to Iraq too was to help get their government right.  And the oil was part of the other part to go there.

Iraq was about a lot of things, but none of them were the reasons we were told.  It was revenge for 9/11, even though Iraq was not involved.  W. has a whole thing with the fact that his father didn't get Saddam, so he was going to get him.  (We did, and yet we're still there.)  

I admit I thought we were going in for oil, which was never a stated reason, but, wow, was I wrong.  Leave it to Bush to invade an oil-rich country and not get any oil.

Actually, we only have one or two refineries that can handle Venezuelan oil.  It's not sweet crude and full of sulfur.  The country to invade would be Canada.  By the time the tarsand gets here it's almost done refining.

We get more oil from Canada than any other country.

Canada and Mexico are the top exporters of oil to the United States.  Why not just invade them?  A lot closer and we'd save billions on jet fuel for our bombers.
