I think religion is only a blindfold when it stops you doing the right thing, when people get lost in the 'rules' and start judging people instead of seeing them as people with different ideas.

But in response to Lincoln6, sure Adam & Eve were the first people, but it doesn't say everyone has descended from them.  Also, the world was flooded and re-done a while later.

For many, religion can act as a blindfold. Who did Adam & Eve's children have children with if they were the first people on earth? You can't see that if you're wearing a blindfold.
