if the speed of light is the top speed in the universe then how can you square it in the equation e=mc2. this would imply that you are multiplying the speed of light by the speed of light which is clearly faster than light.

huh?

  1. it using the speed of light a mathematical reference not actually the speed of light and it was the equation used to create the first fission reactions leading to the wmd creation

  2. The square of a speed is not a speed.

  3. Hi,

    Just so you know the speed of light is not constant.  Try doing a web search on cesium gas light experiments.  I got a thumbs down answering a similar question in the past, but  that's Ok with me.  I do know what I'm talking about.  I can see where you could be confused.

    Also it's the mass (m) times the speed of C (light) squared that equals the energy needed to move an object at the speed of light.   What we think we know we don't!  But we do know just enough to get us in a whole lot of trouble.  ;  )

    Thanks again for the thumbs down... I expected it!   Whom ever did may want to check out the lab results.  You just may be surprised at the results.  Most people thought the Earth was flat at one time too, but they were all, well you know...wrong.  Just goes to show that what people think they know is not what the truth is.  Please people keep up with  the science. Type Dr. Lijun Wang at your search line to review the debate about the Lab results.

    Also, light can be slowed by gravitational forces... like black holes, and or other planetary bodies of great mass.  And to the self proclaimed brainiac Faesson... you are living in a vacuum, and that's why you regurgitate info you learn in pre-school.  Now go back to bed and play with your cat.

  4. You're not actually making something go that fast.  It's an equation that shows the relationship between energy and mass.

  5. The speed of light squared is not a speed, it's a speed squared.  It has dimensions of length^2/time^2.

    c^2 is the fastest speed squared.

  6.   E=mc2 is a mathematical concept the speed of light is a principle of the universe.

  7. smart aleck.

    the actual first version of Einstein's equation was a bit more difficult to write and included a c**4.

    <edit>

    and I will give you a thumbs down, too, Skiing... c, the speed of light in a vacuum IS a constant and YES light can go SLOWER than that, but that's what we in the Science-biz like to call... OBVIOUS.
