Only for a few days or perhaps months.  If you go down about 15 km, the heat from the Earth's core is about 200 C.  If the surface was also 200 C, then in a few weeks, it would be 200 C all the way down to 15 km.

Only for a short period: would be cooler underground for years but you would quickly run out of life's necessities: water, oxygen (no plants) and eventually food.
