Question:

If the ultrasound tech says her best guess is it's a boy, what are the chances it's REALLY a boy?

I'll be 18 weeks tomorrow and had my u/s today to check the s*x. The tech pointed out a part sticking out appears to be a boy, but I've heard they're often wrong. How often do they error on saying it's a boy when it's really a girl? I know the other way happens a lot, calling a boy a girl if the tech just doesn't see anything, but what about now? We really want to know badly what it is!!

  1. it's probably a boy. they're usually easier to tell.

  2. At that week in pregnancy, they're not "often wrong".

  3. Techs are never 100% correct. either they cant read the sonogram/ultrasound correctly or the baby really isnt in a good enough position to tell. trust me. i even had sonograms/ultrasounds done and my doctor told me throughout my whole pregnancy that i was having a girl. so my friends through me an all pink, all girl baby shower. when i delivered, i gave birth to a baby boy! but thats ok, i wanted a boy from the beginning.

your best bet is to get a 3d/4d ultrasound done when you are 25 weeks or more :-)

  4. Most likely it's a boy. It's not often that they are wrong with sexing. Although it does happen, it's rare. They can't give you a 100% sexing, all they can do is say "my best guess is". If you seen what looked like peanuts and a pointy thing, most likely you're having a boy.

  5. Schedule another ultrasound in a couple of weeks at your doctor or schedule a 3D or 4D outside.

  6. If you are really worried about it, have them do another ultrasound in a few more weeks.  My dr. would not tell me the s*x until I was 21 weeks or further so that they would be sure.  I would hate for you to buy everything blue and then it is a girl!  I would say to request another untrasound!  Good luck  :)

  7. They aren't typically wrong, but it DOES happen.  My tech said "Well, I don't see a little wiener, so I believe you're having a girl." So, for now, we're having a girl. :)  We know there is a slight chance there might be a boy in there.  We're pretty sure we're having a girl though. :)

  8. it is probably a boy but they can be wrong. on your next ultra sound ask them to check again and see what they say

    good luck!

  9. It's much harder to tell girls for certain.  If she is seeing something that looks like boy parts, it's most likely a boy.  Especially at 18 weeks.  Just ask for confirmation at your next sonogram.

    Congrats!

  10. Most likely it is a boy.

  11. If you absolutely cannot wait for another couple weeks to get another u/s to confirm what you(and the u/s tech) are pretty sure was a boy, you can always spring for the 3d ultrasound. It costs a few hundred bucks but they're usually ALWAYS correct. Sounds like it's a boy though, and the only other thing it could be is a girl, so if I were you I'd save my money and wait for the next u/s for them to just confirm it for you. I'm betting it is a boy though. Congrats!

  12. i would suggest going to google and typing in 18 week ultrasound boy, and compare the pics to yours. that may help you. i was 24 weeks when i got my ultrasound and as soon as she ran the wand over that part, i knew w/out her saying that it was a girl. she's most likely right, but i would look at other people's ultrasounds and compare and see if they look like yours. i did that too!

  13. They will always say B? or G? because there is no way of knowing for sure. The ultrasound distorts the image and often the baby moves far away from the scanner as the baby does not like the noise from the scanner. Why don't you wait for the surprise and leave the ultrasounds for medically indicated reasons should you need them in the times ahead. Some hospitals have been sued for giving the wrong answer on an ultrasound for s*x determination of a baby in the womb. Most parents just shake their head if they have received the wrong answer, but if you have bought a nursery full of pink when you needed blue, you may be upset with the hospital. Best wishes, G

  14. yes it a boy

  15. well i knew a girl who was told she was having a girl but  ended up having a boy but i rarely hear of a person having a girl if they were told it is a boy !!! so you are prolly having a boy!! boys are so special i am glad i had a boy!! there is just some amazing bond between a mother and a son its great!!
