It's a really hard question and it seems impossible unless there's another layer?

  1. Good question.  The current model of the universe is tied to the concept of the Big Bang, from which the four natural forces (gravity, electromagnetism, strong nuclear force, and weak nuclear force) are supposed to have originated along with what know as "space" and "time."  So as the universe expands constantly, so does space.  It has yet to be proven that there is anything beyond the most far-flung galaxy, quasar, or cloud of primordial radiation, but that doesn't mean that "a space beyond space" doesn't exist - it only means that we haven't discovered it yet.

M-theory has a fancy notion that our universe is something akin to a "bubble" that formed at the intersection of two or more regions of multi-dimensional realities, which would indicate that our universe is part of a much larger "multiverse."  But for now, it's only a notion with a lot of complex mathematics to describe it.

  2. It will keep expanding forever.

  3. The universe isn't expanding the way you think. I think "stretching" is a better word.

For example, if you were to put a bunch of dots on a ballon, that represented Galaxys, and blew up the balloon this would be an accurate portrayal of how the universe is "expanding".

  4. There is no outside. The universe is expanding into nothing.

Firstly, it is space and time that expands and then the known universe expands into it.

The universe evolved from nothing and it is expanding into nothing. There is no existence before or beyond.

The term 'nothing' can be misleading. Nothing here means absolute nothing: no time, no space, no matter, no energy, no light.

  5. It expands into space and will continue for a long time..

  6. nothing.  absolutely nothing.  nothing exists beyond the universe, because there is NO beyond.  It isn't expanding into anything.  it is just expanding.

  7. It will keep on expanding in what we scientists call the Big Rip. Dark Energy which makes up 70-73% of our Universe has a repulsive force and it will continuously drive the galaxies farther and farther apart until even the atoms of all matter in Universe will be ripped apart!

  8. the thing is...I ask this question too. But seriously, if anybody knew you wouldn't be asking this question.
