  1. No. It's not other noise that makes you unable to hear some noises. Silence doesn't mean that sounds travel without loss.

The vibration's amplitude (that is, the sound's volume) reduces as it travels away from its source. For example, if you drop a stone in a calm pool of water and watch the waves expand away from the centre, they reduce in amplitude as they fan out. With sound, it is the same except in 3D, like an expanding sphere.

It is also worth noting that other noises, that is other vibrations, in the system do not cause the sound of interest to be subject to greater loss. However, they may interfere with the vibration constructively or destructively, which is how noise cancellation can be achieved for helicopter headphones etc.

Read up on sound, interference, and waves for more info.

    Hope this made it clear.

  2. no

  3. um no...thats a silly question!

  4. Nope. Sound waves can only travel so far. Plus, there are many obstructions in the way like buildings, trees, air, etc.

  5. No.

  6. Doubt it. Maybe people nearby can hear something, but wether we have sound or not it's not like we can hear another person from the other side of the world.

  7. LOL

    :S

    nup

  8. No, but if the wind was blowing, everyone could smell his f**t.

  9. No. But if somebody passed gas, now that would be heard around the world.

  10. sound would travel and get quieter =]

  11. nope.  even if the wind and the waters were still, but i am not sure i can explain why (can you hear me now?)

  12. No. There are too many particles in the air and other obstructions. Also you'd most likely hear the earth's natural "hum" than someone's voice.

  13. Yes!

If the person who spoke, spoke into the ground-then the worms would all whisper the answer to each-other. So there'd be a good chance of you hearing it. Though admitadly second-hand.

  14. nooooooo. lol

  15. What a different  statement  and question. You know i took a float trip down the current river in missouri once and we came to a place in the canyon walls that was dead silent. So silent it was allmost scary so scary someone spoke to me and i forgot what they were saying so we might not hear it if that makes sense.
