If the wife has some open accounts,and dies is the husband liabel for her debts?

i don't want to leave my husband holding the bag for all my debts.although they are being paid for by my family because i have co-signed for a few of them but should they fail to I don't want my husband to be resposible he is a step dan even if he wasn't it would not be right,hope someone has an answer,guess i should have called a lawyer but this is more fun thanks.

  1. unless you make some sort of arrangements in your will; such as life insurance money will pay for all outstanding debts. otherwise your debts become those of your next of kin, usually that of your spouse, then children.


  2. yes but to get out of it you could claim you never heard of her before and take a trip for a month been their done that i didn't have to pay a penny

If this is a big concern for you then I suggest you see an attorney and have a living trust and a will set up.  It simplifies all the money, property and debt problems you can incur when a love one passes away.  Believe me, do not die without these, I lost my mother and my brother within a year of each other and I am still trying to get through the probate, 5 years and counting.  So do yourself and yourfamily a big favor and set things up now.  You just never know, both deaths in my family were totally unexpected and believe me, my life would be alot easier if they had taken care of their wills or trusts.
