They worked 9 days and got 1 day off.  Most Egyptian monuments weren't built by slaves, they were built by the average person.  Everyone in the society was expected to put forth some time every year to help with construction.  That is a long work week, but these people also believed it was a religious experience to be working on monuments that they were told to build by a "living" god.
