If there's a tie for 12th, who would get in or would they both get in?

I heard about a year ago that if 12th place was tied, they would both be in. Is that still true?

  1. i'm pretty sure they would both get in. going by owners points wouldn't make a difference as they would both have the same number of owners points if the driver was in the same car all year. the number 12 is not hard and fast - if i'm correct, there could be more than 12 drivers in the chase as there was an overall points provision as well. if there was less than a 400 point difference between first in points and 15th in points, 15 would get in. at least that's how it was before they expanded to twelve and i don't believe that changed.

  2. Yes ---  When NEXTEL took over NASCAR's premier sponsorship for the 2004 season, they used the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series as a model to develop major changes in scoring.[7] First, five additional points were added for a race win. Second, a new formula for declaring a series champion based on the ProCup system was devised. A cut was made after 26 races, with the high twelve drivers and teams PLUS TIES placed in the Chase for the Championship (or simply "The Chase").

  3. i think it would come down to wins

  4. we'll they should because you just have to be in the top 12 when the chase ends

  5. Jeff Gordon would get in.

    Gotcha ...!!!

Seriously ... someone else said the one with the most wins would take the 12th spot.

Here is some more information that suggests otherwise but those are rules from back when they had only the top 10 drivers in the chase so ...

  6. I think so. If not, I sure wouldn't want to be the one to make that decision.

  7. When the chase was first announced (and only 10 drivers qualified for the chase) Brian France said if there was a tie for 10th both drivers would make the chase.

I do not know if they have changed the policy with adding 2 drivers to the mix. My guess is all tied for 12th would make it in the chase.

  8. Nope.. Just one would get in. They'd go by the most wins first, if they are tied then, it would go to the most laps led, if tied on that, they'd go by owner points.
