  1. The best thing in life is God and He gave us the gift of forgiveness. This is the best thing in life. Gifts are free so therefore so is God, his son, his forgiveness, and his unconditional love.

    God Bless

  2. My dear..."tormented genius"...

Well... let me put it like this : All those precious "things" like : love, peace, happiness, contentment, compassion & empathy for another person... those are all "things" that one can  NOT ..."purchase"...-they are  G I V E N  at free will - and are the  M O S T  VALUABLE  GOODS  in life !!!! What could be "better" than to be surrounded by loving & caring people, who respect you as an individual & loves you...UNCONDITIONALLY !!! And believe me...those  A R E  the BEST things in life!!!

Wishing you all the best for the future ! Greetings from Germany & all my love...Annette***

  3. The best things in life aren't free.  That's why poverty makes people depressed.

  4. Ah. Such a conundrum.

The free lunch quote is from Milton Freedman, an economist and not a philosopher.

The other quote is, among other things, song lyrics.

In this case both can be true.  You just have to define your frame of reference.

But with that said,  no mature adult would ever really agree that anything is free, even love.  (And no one who ever gave birth would say LIFE is free!) The beauty of life comes with learning that sometime the cost (or sacrifice) is what makes life worthwhile.

  5. Because lunch is bad for you.

  6. what about breakfast and dinner. a free lunch, nothing is free.

its hard to accepted but you must let that consept go and replace it with no free lunch. I'm sorry,

    sucks to be you.

  7. I guess they think lunch isn't one of the best things in life.

  8. Existence is the ultimate free lunch.

Well, maybe not, but the only cost appears to be philosophy, not a bad trade.

  9. It means that there is no such things as a free lunch.  You can't have a lunch that cost nothing, even if someone else paid, it cost something.

    Love doesn't cost anything.

Why do we drive on parkways and park in driveways?

  10. It means that lunch isn't the best thing in life...

    Dessert is XD

  11. Logically it's because lunch is not one of the best things in life.

    Doug

  12. Well Life itself is free.

  13. Honey there are far better things in life than lunch. So of course its not free.

  14. Lots of cliches contradict each other. None works 100% of the time and we're wise enough to know that each does refer to the truth sometimes.

  15. The best things in life are free, but since you are going to die that is a hard bargain!

Anyway, I don't know if the best things in life are free.  Is enjoyment effortless?  I doubt it.  Enjoyment is a choice, and choices take energy, and spent energy costs you.

This is why the 1st of the 4 noble truths is the existence of suffering, which is inescapable here on the material plane; you can consider suffering a "cost."

  16. A lunch takes time and materials to prepare, all of which have monetary value.  If someone offers you a free lunch, they are going to expect something in return.  Intangibles such as a cool breeze when you are overheated cost nothing.

  17. Money can buy you a security guard, but not safety.

Money can buy you a house, but not a home.

Money can buy you clothes, but no sense of self beauty.

Money can buy you food, but it cannot buy you satisfaction.

Money can buy you s*x, but not love.

Money can buy you a college education, but it cannot buy you wisdom.

Money can buy you companionship, but not true friends.

Money can buy a rich lifestyle, but it cannot buy the will to live.
