Question:

If there are Evolutionists, are there Gravitationalists?

I have a degree in Anthropology and I just started using YA last week July 2008. Dumb and repetitive stuff comes from laypeople and some Creationists. Here's my answer to people who say they don't "believe" in Evolution. ---I no longer believe in gravity. I believe the iron core of the Earth is Positively charged and the iron in my blood is Negatively Charge acting like a magnet. (Yes I'm being sarcastic). Do you Physicists and astronomers get as much Bullsh!t from some creationists as Anthropologists? Is this a good rebuttal to shove down their throats?

  1. Oh yes.  But mostly stuff about the big bang, and the same problems they have with evolution - where did the stuff for the big bang come from (doesn't matter for the big bang to occur), not enough time (Biblically speaking), not understanding the basics (explosion vs expansion, not knowing the evidence), denying evidence exists, and refusing to listen to anyone correcting them.  It's the same problem.  But no, they often don't understand gravity, or think ti's magnetism anyway, so they might not even get the joke.

  2. It's really not a science issue...Creationists are not concerned with science...Christian churches, esp. Evangelistic, are not going to dump their belief that the Earth is a few thousand years old because 1,000,000 scientists say the Earth is round, revolves around the sun and is billions of years old......Their faith is so fragile that if you remove one brick in the foundation of their logic, the whole thing will come tumbling down...you could pile up logic a mile high and it wouldn't matter

  3. That is a pretty funny rebuttal.

Creationists are basing their beliefs on faith.  That is a hard nut to crack, because unless they are ready to let facts and science override their beliefs, they will stick to what their faith teaches them.....no matter how flawed.

  4. You have demonstrated that your attitude is no better than theirs.  Shame on you for claiming to be a scientist.  For some 'creationists', your attitude is appropriate, and you're not likely to have meaningful dialog with them.  For others, your most meaningful dialog will concern what portion of the spectrum of evolutionary claims is supported by evidence.  'Species' is an artificial man-made classification.  Few knowledgable people will deny microevolution or adaptation.  Know the difference between genetics and epigenetics.  Ask whether they care if fish, birds, and mammals developed by an evolutionary process from a common genetic ancestor.  If they do, ask them to defend that position from the Bible.  They won't get past Genesis 1.  But if they ask you to defend the truth of that assertion, you'll lack evidence.  Genetics (DNA) will probably answer that question before long.  To me, the only really relevant Bible claim is Genesis 1:1, "God created the heavens and the earth."  So far, science has no basis to support or refute that.
