If there are lumps in your cheesecake, will they smooth out in the baking process?

when i poured the batter into the pan, there were still lumps. will the heat of oven while baking cause the lumps to melt and smooth out?

No - the cream cheese should be soft and beaten smooth before anything else is added.  Some recipes also call for actually straining the batter before use so that you get rid of any lumps.  In future, beat the batter until all lumps are gone.  Room temp ingredients including the eggs really helps this mix well.
