  1. The question is a bit confusing. The parachute is a drag device and more you have, the greater the drag and slower the descent.

Assuming that the parachute is deployed to recover the rocket, increasing the number of parachutes will increase the time the rocket requires to come down. Now if you have lateral winds, this increases the probability of the rocket drifting farther. Otherwise it would fall vertically down (assuming that the parachutes are not designed and synchronized for directional novement)

  2. Maybe you mean a larger parachute??? Yes, it will come down farther away. The slower it returns to earth (hang time) the greater effect lateral winds will have on it. You could watch the chute deploy directly above you, yet loose sight of the rocket before it reaches the ground because it has drifted so far away. That happened to me when I was younger. Here's what I did. I replaced the chute with about three feet of crape paper. This was for rockets two feet tall or less. The crape slowed the descent so the rocket wouldn't hit the ground too hard, and the rocket always came straight down, and I didn't lose 'em anymore. You'll have to experiment with lengths of crape to get the ideal length. Lengths may need to be changed by a few inches with different rockets, to get the best descent. I got to the point where I could get the length right the first time just looking at the size of the rocket and guessing its weight. Good luck.

  3. Yes. The more surface area of the chute the slower the decent rate. Therefore the wind has more time to push it away from you.

  4. The engine and the launch setup are what determines the distance a model rocket will go.  Parachutes don't affect the distance of travel; in fact, they will make it heavier and probably reduce the range.  To go further, add engines.
