wherever i go, be it the middle class area i live in, or the working class district i am from, or even the suposedly poverty-stricken area i work in, i notice large numbers of people using taxis, and the supermarkets are full of people buying, not one or two cans, but whole crates of beer every night. i work, and could not possibly afford to do either of these things, my last taxi being over two years ago - so how can this be so?

  1. It seems whenever there's a monetary depression people try to afford a little bit of expense to cheer themselves up.

No pubs closed in the great depression and people went to the cinema more,in fact this era was the time of the great classic movies.

  2. When the axe comes down we all rush to the comforts?

  3. Well most people I know (me included) spend our paychecks on alcohol because we're so depressed - and then yes, take the taxis home since we don't want to drink and drive. Makes sense to me.

  4. Some people don't care about the situation of the economy, even if they have less money. There are people who will stop eating as much for the sake of having their beer. It depends on the person.

  5. well they buy the beer to stop the depression due to lack of money and get taxis because they dont drink and drive!

  6. Cheaper to hire the taxi here and there than to maintain the full-time car. And who's to say what's excessive? Lighten up and go knock back some shots already.
