Is it Net Run rate or Head-to-head clash or anything else?

Is there an ICC rule on this?

  1. By asking about "group stages" of a cricket tournament your restricted to 2 competions for Senior international sides, as far as i know.  The World cup and the ICC champions trophy are the ones with the extended group phase.

Both of these competitions follow the same Results formula set out by the ICC.  As follows:

    Most number of wins

    NRR

wickets per ball (i like this comparison, runrate for bowlers)

Wins between teams on equal points.

then Draw straws (this will never ever happen)

BUT... if you you cut down the tournament size and look at say the 3-way competitions which are played in Australia it is a little different. As follow:

    Most number of wins total

Most wins Between the teams on equal points.

    Most bonus points

    NRR

I'd like to specifically mention the 2001-2002 VB series featuring Aus-SA-NZ first with bonus points.  Bonus point gained when winning teams Run rate is 25% better than the losing teams (used to encourage aggressive cricket). In which all 3 teams ended the round stage with 4 wins each. Reference Link.

South Africa finished on top because of the Extra bonus point.  Australia failed to make the finals for only the 3rd time in 23 years, Yet they had a Far superior NRR to the other 2 teams.  Was big uproar among many that the new bonus point system was to blame.  In actual fact it is the competitions placement of Head to head results having more importance than NRR which killed the Aussie hopes.  NZ beat Aust 3-1 in the Round stages.  There was some suggestion that NZ may have "allowed" SA too gain a bonus in their final match, allowing them to play in the Finals.

They have tweeked the setup of the bonus point system since then but still place head to head wins above bonus points and NRR.

  7. As of now its NRR..

  8. There will be a penalty wicket.

In the process all players will bowl.

And the ball should hit the wicket.

In it which team gets the highest

    Will be the winner

Like India VS Pakistan in twenty-twenty
