  6. Yes. I live in Norway and each year we have to pour tons of chalk in our rivers and lakes to reduce the acidity of the snow that has fall in the winter with pollution from industrial Europe that comes with the prevailing winds.

    The acidity in the water increases the growth of algae which, in turn, clogs the streams and kill the fishes. Chalk is spread by small boats and sometimes by aircraft.
