I got a traffic ticket for being in a carpool lane in California. The amount for the bail (to pay the ticket) is $396, but it also says the "amount due for a court appearance" is $396, so do I have to pay that much just to go to court and try to fight the ticket?

  1. it means the courts cost. depending on what kind of court you go to it can range from $50 to 200 based on small claims and state court.

  2. You must pay the $396 dollars on or before the listed court date.  If you are not contesting the violation, you do not have to make any court appearances.

Be sure to ask for traffic school.  You must add an additional fee to the $396.  That fee amount should be located on the ticket.
