if when we die we just cease to exist than how is it possible that some people have died and been brought back to life? i'm not just talking about a couple minutes, there have been documented cases of people who were completely brain dead for like a couple hours and then they just wake up and there's no medical explanation for it. How is that possible if were just bodies and when are bodies die then there is nothing, i mean if that were true than those people shouldn't have been able to come back right?

  1. when you say they were brain dead do you mean their bodies were dead? if you are just brain dead your body can still be kept alive.

  2. dying (the grave) is the first level for the afterlife

Many religions believe that there is an after-life. For example, Christians believe that when a person dies, their souls immediately go to Heaven or h**l. In Islam the belief is quite different. Muslims believe, based on guidance from the Qu'ran, when a person dies their soul is removed by Allah's angel (the Angel of Death). Muslims also believe that when the Angel of Death approaches the dying person and takes their souls, the angel either comes in a rage to force the soul out, if the person was evil; or the angel comes in a peaceful manner to give the person glad tidings of paradise.

For the person who lived an evil life, practiced the worship of idols or other gods besides Allah, or did not obey God's laws, the Angel of Death pulls their soul out violently and says "Come out to the wrath of Allah." Their soul is then yanked out feeling as if it is were wet ball of wool being torn out of a thorny plant. These are the ones who Muslims believe are destined to be of the people of the Hellfire, where they will burn in a violent fire for eternity.

As for the righteous and pious person, it is believed that when the Angel of Death approaches, their soul comes out as if it were a drop of water and the person is told to come out to the "Pleasure of Allah." This is described in the Qu'ran, "I swear by the angels who violently pull out the souls of the wicked, and by those who gently draw out the souls of the blessed." (Surah Naziat, ayats 1-2)

  3. Those who believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior will live forever with God:

Rev 21:1   Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone.

Rev 21:2   And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a beautiful bride prepared for her husband.

Rev 21:3   I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, "Look, the home of God is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them.[fn1]

Rev 21:4   He will remove all of their sorrows, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. For the old world and its evils are gone forever."

Rev 21:5   And the one sitting on the throne said, "Look, I am making all things new!" And then he said to me, "Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true."

Rev 21:6   And he also said, "It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega-the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give the springs of the water of life without charge!

Rev 21:7   All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.

Rev 21:8   But cowards who turn away from me, and unbelievers, and the corrupt, and murderers, and the immoral, and those who practice witchcraft, and idol worshipers, and all liars-their doom is in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. This is the second death."

Rev 21:9   Then one of the seven angels who held the seven bowls containing the seven last plagues came and said to me, "Come with me! I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb."

Rev 21:10   So he took me in spirit[fn2] to a great, high mountain, and he showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God.

Rev 21:11   It was filled with the glory of God and sparkled like a precious gem, crystal clear like jasper.

Rev 21:12   Its walls were broad and high, with twelve gates guarded by twelve angels. And the names of the twelve tribes of Israel were written on the gates.

Rev 21:13   There were three gates on each side-east, north, south, and west.

Rev 21:14   The wall of the city had twelve foundation stones, and on them were written the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

Rev 21:15   The angel who talked to me held in his hand a gold measuring stick to measure the city, its gates, and its wall.

Rev 21:16   When he measured it, he found it was a square, as wide as it was long. In fact, it was in the form of a cube, for its length and width and height were each 1,400 miles.[fn3]

Rev 21:17   Then he measured the walls and found them to be 216 feet thick[fn4] (the angel used a standard human measure).

Rev 21:18   The wall was made of jasper, and the city was pure gold, as clear as glass.

Rev 21:19   The wall of the city was built on foundation stones inlaid with twelve gems: the first was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald,

Rev 21:20   the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst.

Rev 21:21   The twelve gates were made of pearls-each gate from a single pearl! And the main street was pure gold, as clear as glass.

Rev 21:22   No temple could be seen in the city, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.

Rev 21:23   And the city has no need of sun or moon, for the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its light.

Rev 21:24   The nations of the earth will walk in its light, and the rulers of the world will come and bring their glory to it.

Rev 21:25   Its gates never close at the end of day because there is no night.

Rev 21:26   And all the nations will bring their glory and honor into the city.

Rev 21:27   Nothing evil will be allowed to enter-no one who practices shameful idolatry and dishonesty-but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life.

  4. The brain is still capable of operation for hours after death - its just that the potassium ions that flow through the brain (ie the eletrical current) has ceased working.

The problem with long term brain death is that the neural cells begin to degrade quickly after death. However, there is nothing preventing those cells returning to operation after a while if there is oxygen and energy provided, if they have not been too seriously degraded.

Also, long term brain death patients are usually returned with serious cognition difficulties because intermittent neurons have died in the preceding period.

Furthermore, many of those cases involve re-animation infrequently over the time that the person is said to be dead (in other words, brain death is not total or complete for the period). In fact, some diseases like haemeragic fever produce such reactions.

  5. you forgot to include 'yet'

    There's no medical explanation YET.

Remember to always include that when you talk about science too.

  6. They've never been dead and been brought back to life.

You might want to cite some sources on that "hours" claim before you get torn apart.

BTW: I'm an atheist and I've had a NDE.

    -------------

So their body was being kept alive.  This would have included, to some extent or another, their nervous system.  The explanation then is simple -- for some time, even hours, the action potential of the person's nervous system was insufficient to be self sustainable.  However, because metabolism was continuing (ie: life support), the neurons were able to repolarize and resume functioning.

The fact the people had their memories and minds intact would be because these things are encoded in the physical structure of the nervous system, which would have endured on life support.

  7. Your stupidity doesnt mean that it can't be explained. The brain works via electrical signals called "action potential". When you die these signals start to slow down and stop. Generally when people wake up again, their brain has kicked in again. They weren't standing at the gates and sent back to finish some unfinished business. Its called lucky.

  8. They haven't.  No one who is actually dead -- meaning no blood circulation for ten minutes, while at room temperature or above, can possibly come back to life: the carbon dioxide buildup in the cells causes them to rupture.

  9. This would be listed as One of God's miracles Only he could bring back a dead person.

  10. I was gonna come up with some witty comment and then an example, but the first answerer completely nailed it.

When a person dies their brains aren't immediately wiped clean.  In some cases, it may be, but in others, organs die one by one, and in no particular order.

  11. Actually there is source source material in the book the case for the creator by award winning journalist and former legal editor of the Chicago Tribune Lee Strobel. In one case a person left there body and were travelling up when they saw a red shoe on the roof of the hospital. It was later confirmed that there was a red shoe on the roof.
