  1. they are underground - this is between 5 and 20 times more expensive to build than overground and more difficult to maintain and repair also, so only where land is at a premium is it done... the one plus is that it is much more secure against attack and weather proof also...both highly relevant in Manhatten....

  2. YES!

because other governments are either too poor/stingy/cheap to replace old visible 1s wif 1s underground

although most new places do hav undergoround 1s

  3. They are also harder and more expensive to repair if a problem happens.

  4. Yes they are most likely underground.

Underground is more expensive than aerials and poles.

  5. Well I don't see too many power lines here in London.  I guess you need underground power lines in a city as steet level space is such a premium and cable and telephone, broadband, gas and water already run underground, what's another cable?  Go rural and its back to pylons, water towers, bulk gas tanks, telegraph/telephone poles and aerials and dishes everywhere.

  6. Its an underground grid. Its a great space saver, after all who wants to stare at power lines and power poles from their apartment window.

Its best implemented at the beginning stages when building residential, commercial zones but changing over from existing surface networks is costly.
