Oceanography is a key subject in climate change. If so much money is being spent on climate change research and it is so profitable for scientists, why is the U.S. research fleet in such trouble financially?

  1. They must give an answer that will propagate their job.

  2. because its not just about the money its also about everybody on earth doing their share in trying to cut down on burning fossil fuels and emitting carbon dioxide, which most dont do.

  3. That's not the only research funding problem, either.

"NASA is canceling or delaying a number of satellites designed to give scientists critical information on the earth's changing climate and environment.

The space agency has shelved a $200 million satellite mission headed by a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor that was designed to measure soil moisture -- a key factor in helping scientists understand the impact of global warming and predict droughts and floods. The Deep Space Climate Observatory, intended to observe climate factors such as solar radiation, ozone, clouds, and water vapor more comprehensively than existing satellites, also has been canceled."

The answer is of course that this 'skeptic' conspiracy theory that scientists are perpetrating a global warming hoax in order to get grant money is completely absurd.

  4. Considering only 1% of the oceans have been explored. It poses a moment of befuddlement. Perhaps (Prewitt,1982), said it best; " Instead of constantly measuring scientific literacy of the public, a better question for researchers to ask is what do the scientists know or should know about the public"?"  A useful tool in the polictical arena when it comes to redefining science.

  5. My guess is the scientist are worried about securing the money for themselves, not for updating a fleet.
