there are two different models of rockford fosgate subs i would like, the p2 with 250rms and the p3 with 500rms

im looking at buying two, and hooking them up to an amp etc

with the end result being either 500rms or 1000rms is it worth going the p3? or would the bass be more louder or distorted being more rms? and more expensive buying a more powerful amp etc?

  1. These answers are ridiculous. Don't listen to the above. First off, you cant compare the p2's to the p3's. they look similar on paper but the sound is definitely different. The P3's have alot more control and can pound alot harder without getting distorted. I would definitely spend the money on the p3's. They are louder and sound a whole lot cleaner than the p2's.

I owned both as well as installed both into hundreds of vehicles. Trust me.

  2. i know someone who has 2 p2's in their acura.

    Its loud.

He was using a 200 watt rockford amp that came with the subs.

I let him barrow my mtx 600 watt amp and they got  WAY louder.

You dont need a huge amp for them

the p3's would be louder but i dont think it would be worth the extra money.

you could spend the money that your saving from buying the cheaper subs and buy new door speakers or a headunit.

  3. I suggest going to an audio store and listen to the demos and bring a cd and see what is good enough for you. some like it loud and clean some like it soft and clean some like it loud and distorted. install will play a big part on how its going to sound

  4. remember 90% install, 10% product.

no size speaker plays a better frequency than another....that depends on the box they are in and it's tuning.

also, if you go with the p3's, you don't necessarly have to power them and their rated power. you could give them, say 1/2 - 3/4 of their rms and make up the difference by making a larger box. this could save you $$ on an amp...if you have the room to spare for a larger box.

generally speaking, a larger sub plays more efficiently. yes they handle more power, but they also perform better with lower power than a lower powewred sub can perforn at its rated power.

  5. Well if you want to spend an arm and a leg, and want to wake the neighbors two blocks away then by all means get the P3's. the reason i say that is because the bass will obviously louder with the higher wattage. Also if you are looking for a more accurate bass response and not just BOOM BOOM BOOM!!! then it is not about how much wattage as much as the size of the subs. Smaller subs e.i. 8 in and 10 in subs provide more realistic bass where as a subs that is 12 in and bigger will give you and boomier sound. there are a bunch of other factors that can affect what the subs with sound like too like whether you use a ported, bandpass box or if you uses a sealed box, the type of amp you use the wiring of the amp the quality of material you use the size of the car you are putting them in. The easiest way to put it is the less wattage the less money you have to spend, because with the more wattage = bigger amp i.e. more money, bigger amp  wiring kit, more money there, also with more wattage the battery may not be able to handle the load of electricity being used so you might have to invest in another battery or a capacitor, and guess what that means more money. So if you plan on make the stereo a real competition stereo or just want to annoy anyone with in a mile or so of you.. by all means go big if you just want the little extra bass go with smaller subs size and wattage. I know i rambled but this should explain your question. Good luck and go shake some windows
