  1. There may be an eternal cycle of Big Bangs followed by Big Crunches.

  2. Apparently not.  There isn't enough mass in the Universe to stop and reverse the expansion.

Cosmologists used to hypothesize about a cyclical universe of expansion and contraction, but that's pretty much passe.

  3. Absolutely! Since you are familiar with the big bang you know that even as I respond to you the universe is expanding. Eventually this expansion will lose it's energy and capability to expand any further. When this happens, it will reverse it's expansion and begin to spring back towards the center where it all began. When it reaches the center all will cease! But who knows, maybe that will trigger a new 'Big Bang' and it will all start over again. Maybe it has happened just like that over and over again!

  4. Current evidence indicates that the universe is an open system, dark matter that should make up 97% of the mass of the universe, and is supposed to slow down the expansion, has not been detected. Science now now proposes that dark energy is behind this continuing expansion, if this the case, the universe will contue to expand until it is so thinly dispersed nothing will be detectable. There can be no big crunch.
