Yes, you are correct.  Human genetics allow for an individual's sexual preference propensity, be it heterosexual, homosexual or on a continuum between.

And, who individuals are attracted to is influenced by this propensity.

Societal norms and peer acceptance also play a major role in acting on these preferences.

So, to me, the scientists aren't trying to pull a fast one.  They are just espousing the scientific proof as they perceive it.
