If they can tear down and rebuild a McDonald's restaurant in less than a week, Then why cant road construction crews lay down a simple layer of concrete in the same amount of time? I am getting tired of wasting countless hours in traffic. If you (the reader) are one of these road construction crew, quit wasting tax dollars and do some work for a change instead of leaning against a shovel while you and your 20 co-workers idle chat about the days events! Get these Illinois roads fixed G** D**MMIT!

  1. I would guess because a McDonalds restaurant is in one place. You do all the work there and there isn't anything to get in your way. When re-paving a road you have traffic there to deal with and it takes more time. It looks simple, but I guess it is more complicated that it looks. I really don't know.

  2. Good question.  it sounds perplexing but the answer is very simple.  Each mcdonalds location is a privately owned franchisee and for anything in the private sector of business time is money and with mcd's they are losing a tremendous amount of money everyday that store is not open.  And with your road crews they are contracted by the state if not state owned in your state.  They can jack off all they want because at the end of they day the state is more than likely flipping the bill in someway or another so they can take all the time in the world.  Why should they be in a hurry when they got their hands in the governments pockets.  If it were me it would take ten years to lay a miles worth of road too.

  3. There is nothing simple about a layer of concrete that has to support tens of thousands of pounds.  Especially if considerations have to be made for existing sewer, gas and utility lines.  Permits take time, too.

Weather can also be a major factor - a lot of rain can cause the ground to swell, for example.  Build a road on top of swollen earth and it'll collapse when the ground dries out.

  4. because road crews get so much money a year to fix the roads and they want to use every penny cause if they don;t they wont get as much next year  ///

  5. McDonalds does not have to support a single car let alone a loaded semi truck, plus thousands per day.

The depth of a building foundation is no where near the base needed for a highway.  A building lot may already be graded/leveled and certainly doesn't take as long to accomplish as a mile of highway.

Then there are overpasses/underpasses to consider.
