  1. You can bet on that.

They wrote the Constitution to keep the federal government from abusing its powers. It's toilet paper for this government.

  2. I'm sure they are rolling over in their graves.

  3. Absolutely.

  4. If they were here now it'd be revolution time.

  5. There might be a bit of kicking in both directions.

Fortunately or otherwise, the constitution the forefathers left in place allowed for just whatever has developed. So, forefathers might have some thoughts about what they did wrong.

  6. (I used this answer earlier today)

Today’s politics is a reflection of how people in America have no knowledge of the Constitution. In the evolution of America, we have a general populous that has no knowledge of its past, nor does it have the reasoning skills to put two and two together.  History and civics are basically no longer taught in our educational system.  We have become what our founding fathers feared - rule by the group, not by the people.  The founding fathers feared a public that was not educated. This is one reason why public education came about in the first place. The founding fathers set up a system of checks and balances, with a guarantee of certain rights that cannot be infringed upon. This was a mainstay in our educational system and was taught along with reading, writing and arithmetic. It was believed, and correctly so, that if a person can read, he can teach himself anything, and make his own decisions that were best for him. Today, the so-called 3Rs are not being taught, and neither is history or civics. We have the mindset that government exists to provide us with security and well being, and if that means sacrificing freedoms or rights, then so be it.  I believe that government exist to protect freedom and liberties, because from these is where well being and security ultimately comes. I agree with Ben Franklin – Anyone willing to sacrifice their freedom for security deserves neither (paraphrased). What the government does today would have caused an armed revolt in the nineteenth century.  Maybe that’s what we need today?

There was a time that being a Liberal meant standing up for justice, fair play, exposing corruption, and pointing our flaws in the system. Conversely, being a Conservative meant standing for local control of power, non-intervention foreign policy, less government and low taxes.  Regardless of persuasion, both sides looked first at the Constitution for authority with the understanding that no law could be made that could infringe upon those rights guaranteed, except in time of emergency (the only emergency would be war in which the nation has been invaded).  Being an elected official meant serving the people who put you in office.  Not pushing an agenda; not pandering to a group; not saying or doing what is politically expedient for today.  It was also understood that no law could be made to favor one group at the expense of another. Today the majority in power uses the tax code to punish who they wish and reward who they like creating more division and more special interest.  In the name of political correctness, we ban free speech in order to “not offend”, but then try to legislate morality when “free speech” threatens decency.  Instead, we should understand that with rights comes responsibility.  There is no right, not to be offended, and morality cannot be legislated. This doesn’t mean that any and everything goes. What it means is that you have the right to live as you like as long as you’re not interfering with someone else!

For the sake of space here on Yahoo answers, I will close for now.  But it has become apparent to me that America has become a land of idiots.

  7. Actually the forefathers would be amazed at how efficiently our present government runs with such a large population and territory with out constant internal wars and strife.

Yes, we have rioting and mass protests, but that does not equal to what the other large countries in the past have endured.

In their eyes, the closest country that would have rivaled us, would have been the Roman Empire, and we know how well the Roman government managed things.

I say we are doing a good job given our population size, and territory size.

  8. please man politicians are all corrupt now a days.  its not about whats good for the country its all about the dollar signs in their pockets and making sure the people that got them there are taken care of just like they promised.

  11. They might lynch brother Obama for his racist comments and threats on America and they'd be justified in doing it.
