It looks like more ways are being found to fine people/parents as there are no jobs out there so the government want to keep everyone at school, what about the bullying, & the way a kid never gets to keep it's own personality, because it always has to fit in with other kids. Do you think it's unfair to raise the age to 18?

  1. Bullying isn't just a problem in schools, it can be a problem in neighborhoods too.  I don't agree with what you say about kids losing their personalities just because they go to public school.  It's a lot like the real world.  You have to find you place, where you fit with the job you do the people you are friend with.  The world isn't always a happy place and kids need to learn that aspect.  I don't think bullying is okay.  Parents need to help teach their children compassion in a technological society.

  2. My daughter was bullied because she was a learning disabled student. I have been homeschooling my 3 children for years. Go here for more information on how I did it and how it works for me http://homeschoolanswers.blogspot.com

Feel free to share information there as well

  3. I can't beleive they might raise it to 18 :o!!!!

Its bad enough as it is, kids having to go though school with chavs surrounding them, but 6th form as well ?!?!?!?!?!

I really don't want it to happen. It shouldn't. They won't gain anything.

These people in Parlianment really don't know how BAD it will be if kids have to have thick chavs with them in 6th form!!!!

And a kid isn't an 'it' a kid is a child. A child is a human. A human is a "They"

Honestly, raise it to 18 ?! Are they completly MAD?! Did they leave their brains at home the day they thought of it ?!

    No, its awful.

BUT, I must say, and stress, children don't lose their personalities in public schools. Everyone thinks they're so bad, but thats because thats the only thing the media writes about. In my area we have 2 fantastic public schools that get better results than the private ones !!! I see children walking home that are really happy and smiling. People get the wrong impression of public schools.

You can't hide the real world from your daughter forever, better to let her go to a public school, they have a wider range of people from all backgrounds and it really helps people to learn to accept and apprechiate people from other backgrounds.

Bullying doesn't happen as much as people say. At the school I'm at, its a big thing for someone to be bullied. The school is very good at dealing with it - if they suspect bulling, the bully and the bullied are seprated STRAIGHT away, then they find out what happened, and if they find that someone has been bullied, the bully is expeled straight away. And they handle it better than my old school, which was private. A girl was being bullied (these girls were trying to, well, dominate her, I think thats what you call it) anyway, the bullied parents told the school, and, what happend? Nothing. In the end the bullied had to leave the school.

I don't think, however, you shuld home school your child. Although you can do all the subjects, they don't have anyone to compare themselves with, so they might be really bad, but not know it. Or they might be really good, but think they're bad. See? you really need other kids for them to compare themselves with. I really like it when we get our results from a test, and, say, I find I'm 2nd. You don't really get that if your home-schooled.

  4. Well, I must say the person above me doesn't know much about homeschooling. There is plenty of socialization out there. Homeschooled kids aren't locked in their basements for 12 years. Also bullying is a big problem in every school. I don't think it's fair to have all the children dress alike, although I understand the idea behind it. I think that as long as there are boundaries and the children are following those then they should be allowed to express their different personalities.

I'm not sure what the age being raised to 18 is about though. Sorry.

  5. The first answer is quite wrong, and the poster obviously knows nothing about home schooling.

Most home schooled kids are extremely social and intelligent, as well as having a lot of friends.

And bullying happens EVERYWHERE. Being a victim of both physical and mental bullying myself, I would know.

And as an answer to your question:

I agree with you, and in my opinion, if that's how you feel, home school would be a great decision.

Bullying, violence, gangs, murder, suicide, rapes, s*x, drugs, alcohol - it's all in schools today, and shielding your daughter from all of that is a wonderful decision.

I agree with you completely, so many kids have to change their personalities and who they are to fit in with the cool crowd, or risk being bullied horribly.

    Good luck with your daughter!

  6. I think it's terribly unreasonable!!!  I mean, kids change so much when they leave school, they actually grow up and get confidence and stop being either the bully or the bullied!  Plus the schools in england aren't exactly brilliant, they'd do far more damage than good to keep kids there longer than neccesary!

I'm already saving up for a private school for my kids - I don't have any yet and I'm not married (only nineteen) but I'm not sending any child of mine to an english state school, I'll either move abroad or send them to private!

  7. If you are really worried about these problems you should send your child to a private school, they are brilliant and everyone is treated like an individual plus you get some of the best education which could really benefit your child. The fact that the age might be raised to 18 is actually very good for your child, this means that she has more chance of getting good A levels which will help her in getting jobs and qualifications which are a necessity in todays society. Very few good jobs are available without the A-levels and qualifications. Raising the age to eighteen also mean that your child has more chance to develop and mature in both there education and everyday life, this will also increase their chances of higher education. I think it's very fair to raise the age to 18 but of course everyone has there own views which should be respected, think about your childs age and when this law will actually be put into action if you do not agree with it but homeschooling is not necessarily a good thing. Although if your child is being bullied you should definatly take her out of the school and homeschool her if no other means of suitable education can be found.

Hope my opinion is of some help to you

    amanda

  8. do not homeschool your child, because they will end up with no social life and will have no idea how to deal with others. Also, bullying doesn't happen nearly as much as people make it out to.

  9. I'm a member of Education Otherwise, the biggest home education support group in the UK (though it's probably about to collapse), and they are campaigning against raising the compulsory education age to 18.  Why wait rather than take her out now?
