1. Would the incoming or outgoing House choose the President. (either way would probably still be dem majority of states.. right now its 27-21 with 2 ties.)

2. Is it guaranteed a Democratic House would elect Obama?

The most likely tie scenario is if you start with the states won in 2004 and McCain picks up Michigan while Obama picks up Virginia, Iowa, Colorado, and New Mexico, which would tie the electoral college at 269. There are also other, less likely scenarios that could end in a tie, but polling shows this one as reasonably possible.

  1. Gosh.....I would LOVEEEEEEEEEEEE to seee that happen.!!!!!

Then we can  watch as the democrats hand the democrats a victory........the same way Jeb handed the presidency to his brother in 2000.

    That would be so awesome!

  2. The incoming house would decide, and each state gets only ONE vote.  Whoever is first to get 26 votes, is president.  See:

Depending on the map you find, there are about 30 red states, so McCain would get the presidency.  The Senate elects the Vice President.

Nothing is guaranteed except death and taxes, but no party commits suicide by not selecting their candidate.

  3. 1. The current House, the positions don't switch over the morning after the election. There is a gap between election and having the title.

    2. Do you really need to ask? Always, a party would vote for its own candidate and that is more so with Obama, especially since he let them pick his VP.

  4. The senate decides. The senate is democratic controlled. They would pick Obama.

  5. Wouldn't that make this election all that much more historic?

  6. No doubt 2008 will be a close election. If the electoral college vote ends in a tie, it will no doubt be thrown to the US Supreme Court once again to decide. If it goes to the House, there would be major court battles causing prolong grid lock with no clear cut decision because they'll be one suit after another.

  7. Democrats would probably pick Obama because its good for them, not because its good for the couuntry. Either way its extremely unlikely that it will end in a tie. Even if its close it more than likely wont tie.
