If thought is only the firing of electrical impulses in your brain cells,what controls the electrical impulse?

I have heard that they are just random firings caused by what you've learned in your life, but i'm not happy with that answer. What are your thoughts?

  1. I don't believe those comments regarding thought are accurate. I believe the source of all brain  functions is a liquid (can't recall the proper name of this substance) which is capable of directing the functions of the brain.
