  1. Your tiles are  about 1.69 sq.ft. each, and your room is 135 sq. ft.  So, you need about 80 tiles plus 10% for waste.  But are you measuring wall to wall?  Unless you are starting from scratch in a remodeled or brand-new kitchen and will be tiling under your base cabinets, you need to measure your FLOOR space, not wall to wall.  This will save you some money if your base cabinets are in place and you don't plan on tearing them out.

  2. Tile is usually sold by the square foot regardless of the size of the individual tile.  For example, the 16"x16" (assuming the 16" x16" is nominal, meaning it is 16" including a typical grout spacing) there would be 16 sq.ft. in a box of 9 pieces.  It should say somewhere on the box, how many sq.ft are in a box.  You have 135 sq.ft. so with 2%-3% waste, I'd say around 140 sq.ft.  You can round up to the closest whole number of boxes.  Say it is 16 sq.ft, ie 9 pieces, from the example, 9 boxes, 10 to be safe, assuming 16 sq.ft per box.  You should have a few pieces left, just in case you have a piece later you need to replace one.  Ceramic and porcelain tile is produced in runs.  Later runs of the same brand and line can have different shades and texture.

But for the sake of the argument, 135 sq.ft, is 76 pieces, but you need more than that for waste.

Now if that 9'x15' includes space under cabinets, where you won't have tile, then you don't bother with the waste factor, and figure it tight.  76 pieces round up to the closest full box.

  3. 90

  4. 9*15=135    135*12=1620     1620/16=101.5      101.5 Tiles

    Add a couple for breakage

  5. I would say as a rough guesstimate 1215, but it is a guesstimate

    9 feet x 12 gives you 108 inches

    15 feet x 12 gives you 180 inches

total area in inches is 19440

Divide size of the tiles into that and I got 1215 tiles, but I maybe wrong

Wherever your getting your tiles from, ask them, dont forget the adhesive and any wasteage on the tiles

  6. The area of the kithen in inches is (9*12)*(15*12)

Th area of one tile is (16*16)

Divide the area of the kitchen by one tile and you get 75.9375

    So you need 76 tiles

  7. It depends on how much spacing you put between the tiles.  As that may reduce the number a bit, but let's ignore that, because it doesn't have huge effect anyway.  16" is 1 and 1/3 of a foot, so for 9 feet it is close to 7 tiles, and for 15 it is 12, in both cases you would be rounding the number up.  So you would need approximately 7 x 12 or 84 tiles at a minimum.  I would suggest buying 100 tiles, because you will more than likely have to cut quite a few.  Usually people either center one tile, and try to start with a tile in the exact center of the room, or the division between tiles is centered, meaning the you center four tiles in the middle, and work from there, in both cases you will be cutting most of the tiles on the sides and probably will not be able to use the extra pieces.   You can line it by starting in a corner, and only cutting tiles on two sides, but it doesn't look as nice.  You may cut a couple, and have them not fit, so you need a few for that.  Also, you want to have a few extra for future breakage.

I think at home depot and Lowes you can return tiles if you don't use them, so check on that, it may be easier to just buy a bunch extra, and return the ones you don't use.

You can always get more later.  After you finish you should make sure you have a few extras. A lot of the time, tiles aren't available a year or two later when one breaks or chips.

I actually did my bathroom a few months ago,
