My boyfriend's Jeep has dryrotted tires on it. From what a friend of mine told me. But, the tires are keeping the tire pressure. Would it be safe to travel long distances with the tires the way they are?

  1. I would say no they can come apart at anytime, any second.Dry rot means they have weather cracks in them and they can come apart or blow out easier than good tires.

  2. NO NO NO!  Tires heat up as they run, as much as 80 degrees.  A truck tire cant be retreaded after it is 5 years old, that is the reason.  Even a tire 5 years old with 100% tread risks failure.  Front tire blowouts can be deadly!  A tire is one of the most important items on a vehicle, never take a chance.  I is other's life and property at risk as well as yours!

    Drive safely!

  3. Dry rotted tires (I am assuming you are seeing tiny cracks) should be inspected by a professional technician.  All rubber cracks as it dries out but assuming the tires are reaching 5 years of age.... you should probably prepare to replace them.

  4. No it is not safe to drive on dry rotted tires, get them replaced asap...

  5. I would buy new tires................safety is an issue here and he could lose control if he blew a tire at a higher speed.

  6. NO NO NO.

  7. NO IT IS VERY DANGEROUS.ESPECIALLY ON LONG DISTANCES BECAUSE THE TY RES GET WARM AND THE PRESSURE INCREASES CAUSING A BLOW OUT SO GET THEM CHANGED AT ONCE.....

  8. well no.....they could blowout at any time.... even if they was new so dry rot is always bad wouldnt be safe to drive a mile.... they only will hold air til they pop.... you ever seen nascar what what happen when they blow a tire... they bounce off the wall and wreck.... he will do the same.....when they pop also... but he wont have many walls to save him it will be another car or a tree

  9. No its not safe at all. The side walls of the tire could blow out with just a bump in the road.
