  1. Under your circumstance,I suggest here for you to have a visit.

  2. There is not a lot I can add to the above answers. It all comes down to corporate greed by the insurance company's. There sure willing to take your money however.

I would just like to add however, why has the U.S. never done a thing about the health care crisis. Why is health care here a privilege and not a right. Why do we spend on average 2-3 times what other countries do with our current system.

  3. Because medical insurance companies, like any insurance company, want to make money, not give it away; They'll find any excuse not to pay for something.

In this instance, they will often argue either (a) that transsexualism is a 'mental illness or condition', and surgery isn't appropriate, or (b) that it's 'cosmetic' surgery, and not covered.

That said, there may be some good news for transsexual people; see here -

  4. Diane's right insurance companies are in business to make money.  One of the ways they do this is by denying coverage any way they can. And seeing as the insurance industry is basically not regulated in the USA they have carte blanche to discriminate against anyone they choose.  Being that transsexual people are very few in number it's easy for them to deny us coverage.  But times are changing.  The American Medical Association recently passed a resolution calling on the insurance industry to start covering our care, including surgery.  Here's a link to a pdf file from GLAD on it:

For years the insurance company have always exaggerated the costs of covering us, saying it would drive everyones premiums up dramatically.  They lied:

From the article you can see that studies indicate that the anticiapated increase to the average insurance bill would be approxiamately 2 cents per month.  You read that right, 2 cents!  And knowing how the insurance industry studies everything to death you know they've known this (2 cents) for years.  But they put greed first and CHOSE to discriminate.

And for completeness sakes we should also talk about the Benjamin Standards of Care put out by WPATH (formerly the Harry Benjamin International Gender Dysphoria Association).  The are very clear about how they stand on the need to treat transsexual people by helping them memdically transition.  They state:

"s*x Reassignment is Effective and Medically Indicated in Severe GID. In persons diagnosed with transsexualism or profound GID, s*x reassignment surgery, along with hormone therapy and real-life experience, is a treatment that has proven to be effective. Such a therapeutic regimen, when prescribed or recommended by qualified practitioners, is medically indicated and medically necessary. s*x reassignment is not "experimental," "investigational," "elective," "cosmetic," or optional in any meaningful sense. It constitutes very effective and appropriate treatment for transsexualism or profound GID."

    Seems pretty clear doesn't it?
