  1. my hubby cousin had twins and there was twins on her fathers side

  2. yup.

genetics don't generally determine wether or not someone has twins.

  3. Yep. It's not solely based on genetics:)

  4. yah....fertility pills would do.

  5. it might be.

  6. yes.  Its not only genetics that cause twins!

  7. yes of course!! and vice versa, just if they are in your families doesn't mean you will have twins!

  8. Generally, identical twins run in the maternal line.

Fraternal twins are simply your body being over stimulated and releasing two or more eggs simultaneously.

In *both* cases, twins (or more) are rare, but quite possible. It's called a fluke.

In any case...whether one or more, may the child bring light to your life and joy to your heart!

    Good Luck!

  9. Yes it is

  10. 1 in 89 pregnancies in the US is a twin pregnancy. I didn't think it was genetically possible for me to have twins, yet here I am, 37 weeks pregnant with twin girls.

  11. Yes it is possible, the twins that run in genetics are known as fraternal twins. The reason genetics determin these type of twins is because they occur when the woman releases two eggs when she ovulates and that is a genetic trait passed on through the womans family. The reason you can still have twins even if this gene does not run in your family is because identical twins, the type where one fertilized egg splits to create two identical babies, is totally random and you have as much chance as the next girl for this to happen.

EDIT: The father's family does not affect the woman's ability to release more than one egg at a time and the spliting of one fertilized egg to make two is a miracle of nature not relating to the father either.

  12. of course, last i read they don't even know all the causes of identical twins, i think it's fraternal that tends to run in families... and that is simply mom dropping an extra egg :)

... my grandmother had fraternal twins and though i also am expecting twins the OB thinks they are identical as they seem to be sharing 1 placenta

  13. Yes, it's very possible to have twins. :) Having twins is usually the effect of your body releasing two eggs or one egg splits.

  14. Yes!  None identical twins come from two seperate eggs and although this does tend to run in female blood lines it can start anytime with anyone.  They used to think than identical twins (one egg) was just a freak thing.  They have since found that this can happen to anyone as well as running on male bloodlines.  To some up it is alwasy possible (especially with IVF)

  15. Sure.  They could run on your husbands side of the family.  Or, it could just happen.

  16. It is possible to have non identical twins, both concieved from different eggs

  17. Yep. Your egg can be fertilized by 2 sperm and split into 2 embryos.  Fertility treatment can cause twins, or your hubby might have it running in his family. It's a 1 in a 1000 chance but it can happen.

I think identical twins tend to run in the family more, but fraternal twins are often conceived by chance.

  18. yes twins are most of the time from the fathers side of the family
