My girlfriend and I moved in together and signed a lease together. Several months later things went sour and she moved out with all her belongings... two days after that she says she is entitled to stay until the end of the month. I am i required by law to let her move back in? She did not alert the landlord that she moved out and I have several witnesses that know and saw that she had moved out completely. What can I do to prevent her from moving back in? This is in texas.

  1. You should of alerted the landlord. Let her stay till the end of the month. You owe her that for paying her part of the rent. Tell her you are not the packers and she is not Brett Farve.

  2. Legally, if her name is on the lease, she has as much right to be their as you do.  She is actually entitled to stay until the end of the lease.  In fact, if she moved out and you didn't pay your rent, the landlord would sue both of you, because both names are on the lease, even though she no longer lived their.

  3. Her name is on the lease, so she can stay until the lease expires.

Otherwise, she has paid rent for the month and isn't even staying there...I wouldn't do that, would you?

  4. She is entitled to stay until the end of the lease if she wants. The landlord has no stake in this, one way or the other. He rented to you as a unit, not individuals. As long as he gets paid what you guys decide is up to you. If he doesn't get paid he sues you both and you are both 100% responsible.
