  1. You will need to see the Ophthalmologist at least three times.  One time before the surgery to look for any underlying disease or condition that would contraindicate surgery.  For example, they make sure you can create enough tears to keep the eye healthy and they make sure you don't have pressure in your eyeball that might later affect your vision or even the shape of the eye.  You would see them after surgery to make sure you healed well and for at least one follow-up.  I saw my Ophthalmologist five times over the first year and continue to see him once a year.  Just my advice here... don't skimp on the visits.  You could refuse to go to the doctor after the surgery, but you also could lose your eyeball (literally) if there is infection, ulceration, opening of the surgical flap (with Laser surgery), etc.  Finally, before you get surgery, it is worthwhile to understand the potential drawbacks including development of the need for reading glasses, halos around lights and blurring at night.  I must admit that after 7 years I would still have opted to not have surgery if I knew then what I know now.  My day vision is great, perfect.  But at night time, my near vision is poor and the halos are bothersome when I drive.  If you are only slightly near-sighted, then this is much less of a problem.  Below is a link to a picture that is close to what my vision looks like at night.  Again, keep in mind that I enjoy swimming, running and everything in the day.  It is a tradeoff.  Good luck

  2. I had Lasik a couple weeks ago...

1st visit: eye exam/checking cornea density/they make sure your a candidate

    2nd visit: Checks tears/dilates pupils

3rd visit: Discussion about the surgery/ payment and such

    4th visit: Actual surgery

5th visit: Day after eye exam/ check to make sure everything is okay

    6th visit: Week checkup

    7th visit: Month checkup

    8th visit: Year check up

After that I think you're suppose to have your eyes checked every year but it isn't mandatory.  Some Docs might make less appointments for you in the beginning, they might do all the exams at once...those were just my experiences.

  3. You don't see the optitonal at all, whatever that is.
