If you are 16, do you have to go to the school your parents are trying to get you in to, if you don't want to go?

  1. There are a few things to say here:

    1. I know that legally a person can make their own decisions at 16.

    2. Have you sat down and (as calmly as possible) told your parents EXACTLY why you don't want to go to the school? And do you you have a school/s that you do want to go to? Most parents will (in some way) deal with your decision if you explain to them that you don't like their plan, but have one of your own.

    3. Don't be afraid to go against your parents. You come through them, but you are not of them, make sense? Live your own life, regardless of what your parents say. It's not their life. You have probably thought of these things, but now someone else has too. Good luck.

  2. yepp because you're not 18 yet

  3. Yes, until you are 18 you are doing what they say.

  4. yep, whatever school they enroll you in, you have to go.

  5. Yes, because you are still in high school, even your parents have no say in where you go, if you are in the public school system.

HOWEVER, if you are having problems at the school you have been going to, like being bullied, or something just as bad, your parents DO have the option of putting you into another school system that is out of the district. You would have to provide your own transportation, though.

I worked with someone who had to move their son to another school. I don't know why, but as I stated, they had the option, and had to provide the transportation to the school.

If you ARE having problems that are affecting your school work and also your personal life by making you depressed or anxious to where it IS affecting your grades, you need to have an honest talk with your parents about what is going on.

IF they don't take you seriously, or are not listening to you, you might have to enlist the help of another adult, like an aunt or uncle, or a friend's parent that you trust, or even a school counselor, that can sit down with you and your parents and help intercede for you.

It's been a long time since I was in school, but there were bullies back then, too.

But they were nowhere near as bad as what I have heard bullies do today.

If it is a problem with a particular teacher, you need to let your parents know. They will go to bat for you.
